Huntingdon Valley, PA—August 2, 2012—Holy Redeemer is proud to announce that Francisco Martinez of Philadelphia has been named Employee of the Year.
Martinez began his career at Holy Redeemer’s Drueding Center, a transitional housing facility for homeless women and children, as a volunteer after-school karate instructor. Thanks to his excellent rapport with the kids, he was eventually invited to join the staff of Drueding’s Child Care Center as a full time teaching assistant. He seized this opportunity, and used it to introduce an exercise program and obstacle course for children of all ages at Drueding Center. Today he works with older pre-schoolers in their classroom, and still finds fun ways to get the kids moving.
“Francisco is a wonderful person, he’s genuine and passionate about his work,” says Sabrina Morris-Tijani, director of youth services at Drueding Center. “He’s such a positive influence on the kids, who see a husband, father, and patient encourager in Francisco.”
As one of eight children raised by a single mother in Philadelphia, Francisco understands Drueding Center families’ experiences. “My mother struggled, and I helped raise my siblings. But we never got into bad habits, and we treated others well because my mother treated us well. At 72, my mom is still working at the Asbury Park Veterans Home.”
In addition to his daily work, Francisco continues to volunteer at Drueding Center, chaperoning family outings including bowling, movies, trips to farms, and barbeques, and his children often accompany him on these weekend excursions. It is because of this willingness to go above and beyond the expectations of his position, and his deep personal commitment to carrying out Holy Redeemer’s mission, that Francisco was named employee of the year.
