Meadowbrook, PA—March 25, 2013—Beth Baughman DuPree, MD, FACS, Medical Director of Holy Redeemer Health System’s Breast Health Program, has been named REAL Award winner by Save the Children® for her work with patients with chronic illness. The REAL Awards is a first-of-its-kind global awards program designed to develop greater respect and appreciation for health workers and the lifesaving care they provide globally, as well as in the United States.
“I am humbled, honored, and speechless,” said DuPree upon learning of the award.
"This awards program gives Americans a chance to celebrate something deeply honorable—the lifesaving work of countless men and women on the frontlines of healthcare," said Mary Beth Powers, chief of the newborn and child survival campaign at Save the Children.
DuPree, a breast surgeon, is known for her commitment to holistic healing, bringing together state-of-the-art Western medicine and aspects of Eastern medicine with the goal of not only eliminating cancer, but healing the whole person. Holy Redeemer Women’s HealthCare at Southampton (45 2nd Street Pike), DuPree’s primary practice with partners Stacy Krisher, MD and Catherine Carruthers, MD, is a site designed with healing in mind. In addition to housing Holy Redeemer Comprehensive Breast Care Surgeons, the site includes a full range of imaging and diagnostics, a wellness center, and a medical spa catering to those with compromised immune systems due to their treatment.
In addition to her surgical practice, DuPree leads “thrivers” workshops and retreats for her patients, participates in overseas medical missions to perform surgery in Haiti, and speaks to physicians, nurses, and other professionals about breast cancer treatment innovations and delivering health care with attention to the whole person.
Because of her dedication to patients with cancer, DuPree established a nonprofit organization called The Healing Consciousness Foundation in 2007. The Foundation funds holistic and wellness therapies for women and men living with a breast cancer diagnosis.
DuPree, who is also Adjunct Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, is Board Certified in Surgery and in Integrative Holistic Medicine. She earned her medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine. DuPree was also recently honored as Philadelphia’s Health Hero by BeWellPhilly and Philadelphia Magazine.
