Drueding Center Children Record CD
Posted Date: 6/26/2013
Meadowbrook, PA—June 26, 2013—The Singing Cats self-titled CD may never crack the Top 40 pop charts, but that matters little to the members of Philadelphia’s newest—and probably youngest—musical group.
On June 24, The Singing Cats celebrated the release of their first CD at Drueding Center, Holy Redeemer Health System’s transitional housing program in Olde Kensington, Philadelphia. The musicians, all between the ages of five and 11, are members of Drueding Child Care Center’s after-school program. They participated in a 14-week music therapy program called Hear Our Voices, in which they wrote and recorded songs describing things that are fun and important to them.
Many of the children who attend Drueding Child Care Center’s after-school program also live at Drueding Center with their mothers and siblings. These children have experienced a great deal in their short lives. Music therapy gives them a healthy, creative outlet for their thoughts and feelings. It also teaches cooperation, respect for others and organizational skills.
Hear Our Voices was led by music therapist Adenike Webb. The program was funded by a generous donation from Exelon Generation.
