October 23, 2012—Meadowbrook, PA—Patients with slow or non-healing wounds can now benefit from a new service at Holy Redeemer Hospital Wound Care Center. On October 1st, Holy Redeemer added Hyperbaric Medicine to its outpatient treatment of adults with chronic wounds.

The Holy Redeemer Wound Care Center is a state-of-the-art facility for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of chronic or non-healing wounds. The medical team, including a surgeon and certified wound ostomy and continence nurses (CWOCNs), are experts on the latest techniques, pharmaceuticals and dressings shown to improve healing and prevent hospitalizations from wounds. Depending upon a patient’s needs, treatment may include a combination of interventions such as skin grafting, use of protective devices and surgical techniques or hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a proven medical treatment that enhances the body’s natural healing while strengthening the immune system. HBOT is a course of treatment used for various conditions and illnesses, including diabetic ulcers and other non-healing wounds. Holy Redeemer’s program features two hyperbaric chambers for patients.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is recognized as a successful adjunctive treatment by the American Medical Association, Medicare, and most commercial insurers.
