Swainton, NJ – August 2, 2010- Summer is here and kids are home from school. Some of them are out having fun, some of them are hungry. Hunger can be hard to see in South Jersey....but it is there!
Holy Redeemer’s Jersey Shore Food Pantry has been serving the local community since 1989 when the Sisters of the Holy Redeemer organized the pantry as an extension of Holy Redeemer’s home care services. On a monthly basis, the non-profit food distribution center provides non-perishable food items to more than 700 sick, elderly and impoverished individuals in the Cape May County area.
Since December 2008, the food pantry saw a 52 percent increase in the demand for support from its client base, and the food pantry needs food donations now more than ever. Our children who receive school breakfasts and lunches are not eating well this summer. You can help. Please join Holy Redeemer’s Jersey Shore Food Pantry, as we gather food items. The pantry, run by dedicated volunteers who staff the pantry three mornings each week, is also in need of youth volunteer support.
The Goals: To bring an impressive amount of food to feed families in our area who are in need and to recruit volunteers to assist with distribution at the pantry.
Donation Location: Food donations can be dropped off at the Jersey Shore Food Pantry located at 1801 Route #9 South in Swainton, New Jersey. The pantry’s hours are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon. For information on volunteerism please call 609-465-2082.
