Holy Redeemer HomeCare and Hospice seeks caring individuals to support local hospice patients and their families
Ocean County, NJ—April 23, 2012—There is no better way to kick start the spring season or honor a loved one who has passed than by serving as a hospice volunteer to patients and families in need. Holy Redeemer HomeCare and Hospice seeks compassionate and emotionally mature volunteers to provide support to local hospice patients and their families throughout Ocean County, New Jersey. Volunteers may also assist with administrative work within the Hospice department and are needed for both day and evening hours.
Hospice patient care volunteers visit with patients in their homes or nursing facilities once a week for two to three hours. They provide emotional support and companionship to patients and family members, assist with errands, or provide respite for caregivers. Bereavement volunteers support the families of hospice patients following the loss of a loved one while administrative volunteers assist with typing, mailings and/or filing.
Hospice care workers provide a great service to families and loved ones of hospice patients. Many volunteers also report a great deal of personal satisfaction as a result of their services.
“Through my experience I have found that being a Holy Redeemer Hospice volunteer is a very uplifting experience for both the volunteer and patient. It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to ease a patient’s anxiety while they share memories or hobbies and it makes me happy to bring a smile to their faces,” said Holy Redeemer Hospice patient care volunteer Nancy Finnegan, of Ocean County. “As a volunteer we don’t distribute medication or handle daily care, but we do make a difference in patients’ lives by just talking and being a listening ear in a time of need.”
Patient care and bereavement volunteers complete an application and attend an 18-hour volunteer training program that covers the medical, psychological and spiritual aspects of hospice volunteering. Day and evening training programs are offered.
