On Nov. 1, Dr. Anthony V. Coletta joined the Holy Redeemer Health System as executive vice president and chief medical officer. In this position, he will oversee the medical direction of the health system, including oversight of strategic initiatives related to physicians, clinical services and affiliations.
Dr. Charles Wagner, who previously serviced as chief medical officer, has moved into the newly created position of chief patient and resident safety and quality officer for the health system. He also retains his position as senior vice president in the health system. In his new position, Wagner will focus on the health system’s strategic initiatives pertaining to quality, transparency and high-reliability.
“We’re thrilled not only to welcome Dr. Coletta to Holy Redeemer, but also to have Dr. Wagner move into this new role overseeing the critical areas of safety and quality,” says Michael B. Laign, president and chief executive officer of Holy Redeemer Health System.
“Dr. Coletta has distinguished himself as both a clinical and administrative leader. Our patients and staff will benefit from his expertise and commitment to the delivery of quality care. At the same time, patients and employees alike will benefit from having Dr. Wagner move into this new system-level role. His experience as a physician and chief medical officer made him a perfect fit to lead our safety and quality initiatives.”
Coletta comes to Holy Redeemer from Main Line Health System, where he was a general surgeon, past president of The Surgery Center of the Main Line, and past president of the medical staff at Bryn Mawr Hospital. He also served in various governance roles.
“As a general surgeon for 25 years, I learned the commitment it takes to care for patients on an individual basis,” says Coletta. “Now, by combining my executive and clinical perspectives, I can impact thousands of patients at one time. That is what led me to my new role. With a strong acute care hospital as well as home care and long-term care business units, Holy Redeemer is well positioned to compete and excel in this market.”
Says Wagner about his new position, “Serving as chief patient and resident safety and quality officer allows me to focus on creating a ‘culture of safety’ at Holy Redeemer. Safety applies to all of our patients, visitors and employees. Our intent is to measure safety more, become more transparent, and incorporate additional evidenced-based practices. And by expanding on the programs we have, we will be better able to accomplish our goal of identifying and resolving safety issues quickly and effectively.”
Coletta and Wagner both agree that Holy Redeemer’s vision for the future embraces the evolution of healthcare.
Says Coletta, “With a strong acute care hospital as well as home care and long-term care business lines, Holy Redeemer is well positioned to compete and excel in this market.”
“And when you serve patients in a culture of safety and transparency,” adds Wagner, “you offer them the highest level of quality care.”
Holy Redeemer Health System, with corporate offices in Huntingdon Valley, is a major provider of healthcare services serving Philadelphia, Montgomery and Bucks counties.
