Children from Drueding Center to capture their "HOPES AND DREAMS" on film
Philadelphia, PA – For children who live at Holy Redeemer’s Drueding Center, a picture is worth just one word: Hope.
Award-winning photojournalist and author, Linda Solomon brings her nationally acclaimed program “Pictures of Hope” to Philadelphia on June 26, 2014 and will work with children at Drueding Center, a transitional housing and comprehensive supportive services program for homeless women and their children Ms. Solomon will provide a photography lesson and empower these local children (ages 6-12) to capture photos of hope. Following this photo exercise the children will be surprised by Ms. Solomon and Mr. Steve Wepryk, Owner/Operator, Chapman Chevrolet, with digital cameras from Walgreens. Immediately following, the children will go on their photo assignment to capture and reveal their hopes and dreams.
“Through photography children share their heartfelt feelings,” expressed Ms. Solomon. “Their hopes and dreams captured in quiet moments tell a story that few adults can imagine. When you show children that you care about what they wish for in life, it builds self-esteem. ‘Pictures of Hope’ is a fourteen-city program this year and I am so very proud to work with Steve Wepryk and Chapman Chevrolet to help children living in the Drueding Center. The children’s photographs will express their hearts. Their photo assignment to photograph their ‘hopes and dreams’ is life-changing.”
Chevrolet, a division of General Motors, has partnered for the fourth year with Ms. Solomon for the “Pictures of Hope” program to help homeless children across the United States reveal their heartfelt hopes and dreams.
"At Chevrolet, we are always striving toward what is possible, just like the children in the program," said Paul Edwards, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet Marketing. "Working with 'Pictures of Hope' we are able to give kids the opportunity to see and photograph the hope and promise in the world around them to help build pride and self-esteem in their lives."
The hopes and dreams of children in Philadelphia will then be transformed into holiday greeting cards which will be sold through Holy Redeemer’s Drueding Center. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of the “Pictures of Hope” greeting cards will benefit the many women and children who receive services at the Drueding Center due to the generosity of Chapman Chevrolet.
“At Drueding Center, we know that healing takes time, and we work with families to create two generations of self reliant adults. Programs like ‘Pictures of Hope’ introduce the children to a creative outlet to express their feelings and allow them to dream about the future,” said Anne Marie Collins, executive director of Drueding Center.
The children of Drueding Center will see their "Pictures of Hope" cards for the first time at a celebration and Meet the Young Artist Reception at Chapman Chevrolet in October or November. During the holiday season from Thanksgiving through Christmas every customer who purchases a new vehicle from Chapman Chevrolet will be given the “Pictures of Hope” greeting cards as a gift. A matching donation will be given to the program from Chapman Chevrolet.
