Hospice is founded on the belief that adequate pain management enables patients to live life to the fullest. We also maintain that pain is NOT an unavoidable result of illness. Regularly scheduled doses of pain medication may prevent pain from occurring or significantly reduce pain during activity.
Our registered nurses work closely with each patient's physician to ensure careful control of pain and control of any medication side effects that occur.
In addition to medications, our staff uses other measures to help control pain, including heat and cold therapy, relaxation/meditation, massage, physical therapy and Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation (TENS). This treatment uses low intensity electrical current over the painful area that interferes with pain signals to the brain and stimulates the body's production of pain killing endorphins.
